The Muse Is in the Building
February 03, 2015
I'm not sure where she took herself off to, but she's back with a bang.
My muse and I finally came to terms, I think.
Being the over achiever that I am, with a tendency to make sure I'm "doing it right," I do believe she threw up in her hands in despair, told me that she'd return when I got over myself, and took herself to the islands. (At least that's where I'd go...)
The upper left card says it all; playing is indeed a serious matter.
No one can make great art - or great anything - all the time.
At times, you've got to just let making a mess, taking bad photos, etc. be enough, because at least you're doing something vs. nothing. And, if you're doing nothing, how in earth, can you ever get better?
At times, I despaired of these cards, particularly the bottom left. That wonderfully pensive woman started out in shades of gray. She just sort of disappeared right into the card, and she desperately needed some help. Out came the colored pencils, and we both were much happier.
All the cards are photographed against backgrounds resulting from experimentation and play, especially when I needed to use up left over paint. I hate wasting paint.
I will slather, splatter, stamp and smush that leftover paint onto anything handy - tags, old book pages, etc. All of it will be added to, collaged on, or somehow used in future art play. Too much fun!
