We headed out to Jones Point, Alexandria, today...myself, a coteacher, and our family of 23, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade! Oh, and about another 300 or so students, adults, etc. accompanied us, while the other 400 or so remained on the school blacktop. Yup....90 degrees, hot and humid...field day!
Jones Point takes about 5 minutes or so to walk from school...a gorgeous little park with biking trails, walking paths, play lots, and so on, but best of all - shade, glorious cooling shade. We competed underneath the WIlson Bridge, a heavily traveled major roadway/bridge that crosses the Potomac River.
I can't begin to tell you how many times we've crossed those bridges, traveling back and forth between VA and MD, never dreaming or imagining what was underneath. To be honest, it never crossed my mind. And, I bet, the folks that traveled those bridges today didn't think field day was occuring underneath them!
My "family" was awesome -working together, cheering each other on, the big ones running along side of the little ones. I just watched and grinned. I am so darn proud of them!
