I bet you see her, but be sure to look closely, 'cause Mama has three babies behind her! I shot this in my dad's back yard, and Mama is a wild turkey with a nest nearby. Dad owns and acre and a half of land, at the bottom of a dead end street that abuts the woods. We've seen turkeys in the area before but never on dad's property. We spied this little family several times while working on packing up the house.
Let me tell you, that a wild turkey simply inspires awe. They are HUGE! If you look closely behind Mama, you can see a fence that separates Dad's property from the resevoir. The babies calmly walked back and forth through the fence. Mama had to fly to a tree branch that sat just above the fence, catch her breath, then fly down to her babies. Turkey lift offs are clumsy and loud. It takes quite a bit of thrust to get Mama airborne.
Mama and babies were truely a gift in the middle of a long, taxing weekend.

Truly, nature restores. Isn't it amazing how stopping to watch something like this revives your soul? It must have been like a balm on the ache of what you are doing.
