Do you see that tiny little tree just to the right of the larger one? It's really not tiny at all, except in comparison to its neighbors. I'll be focusing on this little sweetie over the next several months, watching her through the seasons. Why? Well, Julie over at "The Land of Lost Luggage" thinks it'll be a great project and so do I! You can find all the information over here .
Although she doesn't look like much at the moment, she's absolutely gorgeous in the spring and takes my breath away. I think she deserves more attention the rest of the year. I pass her coming and going, several times a day, and barely give her a glance.
When I pause to take a breath, stop and really look, here's what I see. Come spring, they'll transform into utterly magnificent magnolia blossoms, simply exquisite in their beauty.
RIght now, the sunlight is dancing through her leaves.
Her pieces of bark remind me of flower petals overlapping. She needs a name, I think. Magnolia? Is that too obvious?
While I was outside, I took the chance to to snap some photos of my zinnias, which, by the way make my heart sing with their wild color. I came upon an unexpected visitor...
Can you spot it? I would have loved to get it with his wings spread, but each time I moved he seemed to pull them in even more tightly.
Thanks, Mrs. Julie, for helping me to "see" what's right in front of me. We miss so much as we hurry through our lives, and that's a shame.
Before I go, Julie has a journaling class about to begin, and you can find that information here: http://lostluggage.typepad.com/the_land_of_lost_luggage/art-journaling-super-nova-is-here-register-now.html. You'll be glad you paid a visit!

Really great, Paula! I really love magnolia trees...we used to have on at our old house. Can't wait to see how things shape up with your beauty there! xo

Hi Leslie,
I am so glad that you wrote! I just popped over to your blog, and wow! Your photos are gorgeous....oh, I do love your books!!! I just bookmarked you for more reading.
Better yet, you provided me with a blast from the past. First, I grew up not so far from Valley Forge in a little town called Parkesburg...just a few miles from where routes 10 and 30 intersect. My sister teaches in the Exton area. That tree is stunning.
Also, we lived in Omaha, NE, for about 12 years when my husband was active duty Air Force. We had many a trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo, which is just fantastic.
Thanks for making me smile.

Just a reminder that the Getting Arboreal: A Nature Collection is up for an update next week. Try to make a post with both your original tree photo and your new tree photo and leave me a comment so I can update the links. Hope to see you then!
