Do you have time to sit a spell? Listen to a story?
No, no, no - no princess in this story. Just an overweight middle aged lady in need of a dye job for her hair.
And, me? Go ahead. Kiss me if you want. No handsome prince is going to appear. What you see is what you get...a somewhat rumpled, metallic frog!
So, it's not a fairy tale. No one's getting whisked away to a castle for a happy ever after deal. No white stage coach pulled by white horses. Just a walk through the woods on a mountain side.
Oh, c'mon. Sit and rest your feet. I'm good company. I really am.
Now, this lady...she was a curriculum mapper and attending a national convention. Not sure what a curriculum mapper is? Doesn't matter. If you're really interested, well, that's a story for another day.
Now, this lady, I was telling you about? She needed to cross a stream. Someone had alread kindly placed some planks across it for her. (Well, for anyone, truth be told.)
You know? There were no trolls hiding. No dragons lurking. But, she did not want to walk across those boards...just did not.
And, honestly, she had already ridden a lift up the mountain, where her feet dangled wayyyyyyyyy up there! And, this? Well, for pity's sake, only about 2 inches of clear water ran under those boards, and she was not about to go tumbling down the mountainside. But, the lady did not like the look of those boards. They didn't appear stable, and she definitely liked a firm footing. Then again....
she had already ridden this part way up the mountain...
Firm footing, or not, if this baby tumbled, the lady was not going to win the contest!
Worse, yet, her husband had taken the camera in what she thought to be a considerate gesture or ridding her of things to carry across. Nope. (I told you this was no fairy tale...no knight in shining armor here!) No, he wanted pictures! He was going to pay later.
And, worse yet - there were witnesses, the lady's bosses, no less.
Finally, one of them said, "Just look ahead, not down, and go quickly."
The word "quickly" appealed to the lady, and she did need to get to the other side.
Needless to say, she did get to the other side safely.
It was all uphill from there.
Well, she was climbing a mountain!!!
Coming back, well, she went right across that bridge as nimbly as one of the three billy goats gruff! Well, maybe not quite that nimbly.
Lesson of my little story? It's usually not as hard as it looks. Go for it. Life's way too short, and our fears cost us way too much. We're capable of many things. We just need to give ourselves a chance!
